In attendance: Beth Walsh, Kathy Statz, Donna Maysack, Michele Hughes, Amy Lemberger, Michael Stone, Anne O’Rourke, Don Crary, Lisa Veldran, Michael Hertting, Lee Vermeulen, Lisa Kornetsky, Matt Silvern.
Call to order 6:00.
Minutes from Feb. meeting approved.
Bake Sale
Amy Lemberger reports the Election Day bake sale made $261.00. Many thanks to the YMCA after school kids who helped out and to all other bakers and volunteers.
For the Carnival bake sale she needs a few more bakers. Amy raised the question of too many bake sales(sock hop, election, carnival) in a short period of time may be hindering her ability to get volunteers. Matt reports that we have been averaging about $200.00 per sale so it has been worth while.
Web Site
Mike Stone reports the Rainbow Review is now online at Orchardridgemadison.com. Mike received permission from ORE board member’s to place their phone numbers and emails on the site and suggested that at the beginning of next year ask committee chair’s for permission to place their information online as well.
Budget
Current balance is around $17,463.23. Jan. major expenditures were the purchase of the soccer goals and the color printer.
Matt has sent report to all teachers showing what their allocation is and what has been paid out. Needs to add Tammy Roper with 15 full time students at $10.00 per student.
Feb. budget report is approved.
Yearbook
Lee Vermeulen reports that sales for yearbook s are at 110
so far. He plans for completion by March 22. The disposable camera photos will
help create 12 pages of open layout. Thanks to Lisa Stec, Tina Hutchinson,
Chris Cooley for their help. There will be a dedication to a mystery person.
Lee is committed to this project for the next 2 years, and would like to get
the cameras to the classrooms earlier in the year and promote sales early and
late in the year. Lee recommends the selling of advertising to bring down the
cost of the yearbook from $10.00 to $5.00. To sell ads the yearbook can’t be
created by ORE, and PTO would have to take over its production. Need to make
clear at registration that declining directory information will also result in
picture being left out of yearbook also. PTO would like to create guidelines
for ads by businesses and families. PTO would like to place an ad in this
year’s book as a thank you to staff and students. Motion was passed that PTO
take over the Yearbook operation, ads will be sold to area businesses and ORE
PTO will create a Yearbook committee chairpersons position. Lee V. will write up
job description.
Outerwear Donations
Terri Dsida and Donna Maysack and Jeri Mooberry purchased sale priced outerwear which is greatly appreciated by kids in need, especially on the ski day. It is now locked in locker near the office and can always use more. Before spring break Dr. Hertting needs a parent volunteer to go through the lost and found and send useable items to Klinke to be cleaned and donated.
Playground
Lisa Stec reports that soccer nets are waiting to be installed. Can old goals be removed by the school district? Dr. Hertting will follow up on. The proposed storage shed is on schedule with building permit. Shed needs to be purchased and installed. There is a question as to what kind of base is required, dirt or cement?
Beth Walsh reports on the Track Ride costing $3,381.00 and swings at $4,626.0. Motion was passed to purchase Track Ride and table swings until next year after discussion with staff and students input.
Kindergarten
Registration/Valentines Day
Michele wishes to thank all volunteers who helped with the PTO table at Kindergarten registration, and for those who helped with the bagels and banner for ORE staff on Valentines day.
Carnival
Anne reports everything is on track; room parents are calling parents to fill open slots. She needs help with set up 8-11 Sat. a.m. There is a new prize of a roller-skating party at Fast Forward. Mystery gifts are needed. Lisa K., Kelly, and Michele will all record prize winners. Thank You Anne!!
Lisa V. is overseeing the Book Fair with Mr. Crary.
Spirit Shirts
Lisa K. reports price based on 300 shirts of white with 3 colors as $3.65 per shirt. Colored shirt is more at $4.75. Approx. $1,150.0 cost for shirts and design time.
Plan to use a Respect theme where each class contributes a phrase i.e. “Room 11 says Respect means …”.Time frame of 1 month from conception of design. So this year is not going to be feasible to create, design, and plan a day to wear. Tentative plan for next year, first two weeks ask each classroom create their phrase and have ready for wearing at the Ice Cream Social or for a Community Service day at ORE. Motion was passed to allocate up to $1,500.0 for Spirit Shirts for 2004-5 school year.
Author Visit
Mr. Crary was asked to review “Oh, Brother said the Mother of Tony Pepperoni”, a book by the Galligan family from Raymond Rd., for a possible author visit. He feels it would be a good way for kids to see how a book is created and an ideal family night activity. This year is too full of activities, but next fall the PTO could plan a family night with pizza dinner and the author visit. Michele will report back to Jennifer Goulette, who suggested this activity, of the PTO’s plan.
Misc.
A question was raised as to the rules regarding Toki Middle School students using the ORE playground between dismissals 2:45-3:15. Complaint was made that younger children are intimidated by the older and sometimes less than exemplary students. Dr. Hertting reports that ORE can tell the Toki students to leave the playground, or can call Toki security to talk to students. He would like to handle on a case by case basis and not punish all for the actions of a few.
Meeting adjourned 7:15.
