Tyson Revisited
Discussion was held and a motion was passed to reconsider the vote to discontinue collecting Tyson labels. A new motion to discontinue collecting Tyson labels was then approved.
Winter Outerwear
The subject of having extra winter outerwear available for kids who don’t have it or forget it was discussed with gloves and hats in need. A collection box could be located in the office and teachers can take as needed. Michele will get the word out to parents for donations.
Family Fun Nights
Dates for Family fun nights are set and will begin Jan 15th, 27th, Feb 12th and 24th. Amy McCormick is coordinating the nights. Volunteers are needed to cover the library. Amy will contact Sally Erck for equipment needs.
Sock Hop
Will be Feb. 6th. Henry Morel is coordinating. Will have bake sale at this event and on Election Day Feb.17th. We will not have a raffle at the sock hop. No admission is required but donations accepted. Parental supervision is required.
Rainbow Review
Discussion was held about placing ads in the Rainbow Review. There is a company that will sell ads and mail the newsletter to the student’s homes. The PTO reviewed a few copies of other schools newsletters which are done in this fashion, and will talk to these schools and see what they think and revisit this issue next month.
Picture Day
There was a parent complaint about Lifetouch photo packages reducing the number of photos and raising the price. A question was raised “Can we negotiate the price with Life touch?” Dr. Hertting thought that the price is set and to change vendors would be a lot of work, and that we currently get some nice photo montages and photo cd’s at no cost and that we use the photos for the yearbook. The yearbook will be ordered soon at $10.00 a piece and Lee Vermeulen is thinking about selling “ads” to the fifth graders. Lee will be at next PTO meeting to discuss his yearbook plans. In future if directory information is to be withheld, then picture should not appear in the yearbook as well. It was also discussed that last year there seemed to be a shortage of yearbooks and there were a number of kids who would like to purchase one but couldn’t afford one. Could the
PTO purchase extra yearbooks to give to kids as prizes or at a reduced rate? Dr. Hertting was unaware of an increased desire for yearbooks last year and thought it could be really pricey to buy for free and reduced students at 10.00 a piece for 100 or so kids. As the orders come in we will have a better idea of how many the PTO could purchase for the less fortunate
.
MSCR
Lisa Stec reported that MSCR clubs have been very popular this year and she wants to be sure to use all allocations so she can get more funds next year to keep this fine after school program going strong. She fears going over budget and requests aid from the PTO to cover the overage. It is the snacks that are causing the budget problems, so it was decided that Lisa will request donations from the club participants on the registration form. Dr. Hertting will ask the MSCR director if the ORE PTO will be billed for any overages of MSCR.
MISC.
Michele hopes to have a Schwann’s report soon. Opera for the Young will be visiting on Jan.23rd. The 5th graders will begin an after school Village project next month. The Karate Pilot project will begin next month with the help of Karate America, with 18 students signed up; Dr. Hertting will pick 10 plus alternates.
Meeting Adjourned 7:45pm. BW
