Fundraiser
Aprox. $16,000.00 in orders with profit approx. $8,000.00. School wide participation was 40% so ice cream will be served to entire school at later date as a reward. This was another successful fundraiser with thanks to Heather Renken and Lisa Kornetsky for organizing. The delivery date is Oct. 21 at ORE Open House. Still need volunteers to man tables for distribution. Heather was given many sample products that will be given away as Door Prizes at the Sock Hop. Discussion regarding having a major fundraiser every two years as was done this year and the board agrees that if we can fund activities this way, not having one each year then we should try to continue every two years. The company will give ORE a 5% more profit if we have on every year.
Misc.
Dr. Hertting reports that two new benches will be installed in the playground within the next two weeks. The cost was $979.00.
Walk to School
Beth Walsh reports that the event was well attended yet for the amount of work it may be best to just put out a flyer the week before the event asking parents/guardians to walk to try to walk to school that week. One thing that came out in talking to parents about walking to school is that people who live across Raymond Rd. in the Leland and Whitney Way area who are able and willing to walk do not walk to school because they feel it is not safe due to heavy, speeding traffic. One parent reported a close call with a car crossing Raymond Rd. Lisa V. reports this is an ongoing issue with the Meadowood Neighborhood Assoc. and the Madison Police Dept. Michele and Lisa will look into getting someone form the City to review the pedestrian/speeding activity and see if something can be done to make it safer.
MSCR
Lisa Stec reports that the Clubs are up and running. Kickball, Chess will continue through Oct with Lego Club starting in Nov. Ideas from the board include a foreign language club. Lisa Stec will survey the Staff for volunteers to lead clubs and will approach the ESL and BRS teachers for input. Dr. Hertting volunteered to lead a Math Problem Solving Club. Beth Walsh will begin a Homework Club in Nov. on Tues.& Thurs 3:30-4:30 as a drop-in setting for registered students can get support from adults in reading or homework.
Tyson Foods
Mike Desida reports that our fundraiser for collecting labels includes Tyson Foods. There is currently a strike against management at Tyson for unfair labor practices. He made a motion to end the practice of collecting the labels as it is not a very profitable fundraiser. Motion passed with Mike Stone casting the one No vote due to the political nature of topic.
Collection of Box Tops will continue with box at PTO Table at Open House with a box in each room. Also in Rainbow Review it would be helpful to ask parents to collect box tops at work.
Holiday Singing at
Oakwood
Michele proposed to ask one grade level to take the songs form the ORE Holiday Program and perform at the Oakwood Assisted Living Center. She has the support of Dr. Hertting and Ms. Morrow the music teacher. Michele will talk with Lisa Koch whose mother is an events director there, to help coordinate.
Treasurer’s Report
Expenditures and income from Sept. were reviewed and report was passed unanimously.
Motion was made and passed unanimously to table the discussion of how the spend fundraising money until next meeting due to time constraints.
