Todd Boehm reported the November 9 PTO Sock Hop was a success. Todd said that 300 people attended and the PTO netted $120 from the event. Mike Hertting added the Sock Hop was a very good event because there were no problems encountered. Lisa Stec suggested the PTO buy glow necklaces for the next PTO Sock Hop in February 2002.
The Product Sales effort was a resounding success. The expense for this fundraiser was $11,518.75 and the PTO sold $22,426.45 of product. The PTO cleared $10,907.70 from this fundraising effort.
What should be done with this money and the money raised on other fundraising efforts such as the Sock Hop? The PTO Board decided to spend the money on two projects this year:
Second: Revels
Motion: Carried
Mike Hertting stated that the school district has skilled tradesmen that should be able to install the new equipment and not incur the labor cost.
· Motion by Lisa Stec: Allocate up to $7,000 to update and replace some of the playground equipment.
Second: Todd Boehm
Motion: Carried
The PTO Board will send a card with gift certificates to Pizza Hut to the families of two sick ORE teachers.
There are 35 T-shirts left that Mike Hertting will use as prizes for students.
Don Crary commented the Adopt-A-Book effort netted $1,475. This number was comparable to last year even though ORE lost 100 students because of the new Chavez school this year.
Nanci Kopecky was attending a City Council meeting regarding crossing guards at the corner of Gilbert and Flad.
Ralph Patterson stated the next big meeting regarding traffic around ORE was scheduled for Tuesday, November 27. At that time, a city committee would develop a priority list of road projects in Madison. He said he participated in an Orchard Ridge Community Club (ORCC0 meeting earlier in the week.. At that time ORCC decided to push for speed bumps near ORE. In order to enhance the chances to get this project, it would be nice if people representing ORCC and ORE PTO as well as the ORE and St. Maria Goretti school principals would attend the meeting. Ralph said ORCC already had a letter in support from the beat policeworman in the area.
Mike Hertting said that he could probably attend this meeting but needed more information regarding the time and location. Ralph responded he would contact ORCC and have them call Mike Hertting.
Lisa Stec said MSCR had money available for Destination Imagination after school programs. Destination Imagination would occur for 8 weeks after the winter break. Mike Hertting suggested Lisa discuss a Spanish course offering with Susan Eisenhower.
The Destination Imagination competition in the school district will occur on March 16, 2001 which is the same day scheduled for the ORE PTO Carnival. The PTO Board discussed how Destination Imagination would affect the ORE PTO Carnival. We decided the ORE PTO Carnival should be moved from March 16 to March 9. We will notify the Carnival Committee and send information out to parents by Christmas.
The ORE Speakeasy was cancelled for December. The next ORE Speakeasy will be held in January 2002.
Janice Peters contacted a master gardener for the UW Extension to obtain suggestions on improving the landscaping for the ORE campus. The master gardener suggested:
· Replace wood chips
· Add different plants
· Aerate the grass on the soccer field
The master gardener will send his recommendations via E-MAIL when they are completed.
The PTO Board decided that it would write a job description for a website coordinator now that ORE has a website on http://www.orchardridgmadison.com/ore.htm
Mike Hertting showed the new website to the Board. Mike said the website was a good start and he would contact the MMSD web coordinator to link the ORE website to the district website.
The meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
