Holly Halberslaben

Dot Kroeber
Mike Konicek and Ron Budziszewski joined the ORCC Board. Their terms are from July 2003 to July 2006.
Mike has lived in Orchard Ridge at 5114 Black Oak Drive for 20 years. He is a partner at a CPA firm. His wife Le Ann works for Electra Construction. He has three children.
Ron works at WPS Insurance. He, his wife Linda, and there three children have lived in Orchard Ridge for almost 7 years. Linda works part time at Wisconsin Lawyers Insurance Company.
4th of July and treasurer’s report
Lisa Schneider, last year’s treasurer, was not able to make the meeting. We believe that we broke even with the cost of the 4th of July thanks to the donations received at the picnic.
Bruce Knutson’s American Players Theater trip is the only outstanding cost for last year that is outstanding. We hope Lisa can supply that information.
Denny Caneff-President
Maggie Ritchie-Vice President
Ralph Patterson-Secretary
Mike Konicek-Treasurer
Next year the Vice President will assume the President’s position. Mike will contact Lisa Schneider and obtain the ORCC checkbook and other necessary documents.
Maggie reported that Dan Gregory would join the ORCC Board. Maggie was asked to contact Dan and tell him to come to the next ORCC Board meeting in October. Maggie agreed to complete that task.
There are three traffic issues in Orchard Ridge: Gilbert Road speed , Hammersley Road parking, and Hammersley and Reetz Road speed.
Denny Caneff said money has been approved to slow down traffic on Gilbert Road by the City. The City held two meetings with people that live along the road. The first meeting was with people living from Barton south to Raymond. The second meeting was held with people living from Barton to Hammersley. The City offered four options at the meeting: 1) speed humps-similar to those being installed on Saybrook, 2)islands-similar to those on Muir Field Road, 3) a combination of humps and islands, and 4) neither humps nor islands. From the two meetings the vote was: 1)humps-12, 2)island-7, 3)combination-7, and 4) no-9. The city needs 60% agreement by the residents in order to start work. They asked the ORCC Board for a recommendation as to how to proceed.
The ORCC Board discussed the issue and decided that the City would probably need one more meeting with all of the residents from Raymond to Hammersley in order to determine what should be done. Denny Caneff will contact Dan McCormick, City engineer, and give him our recommendation. If necessary, Denny will write a letter to the City with this recommendation.
Denny and Holly met earlier this summer with Cindy Thomas, representatives of Subzero and Pacific Cycle, and residents along Hammersley Road to discuss parking from SubZero west to Whitcomb Road. The area was becoming a traffic hazard because a number of SubZero employees were parking on the street instead of the parking lot. Holly stated that after a lot of discussion it was determined that all parking will be off limits on either side of Hammersley near Reetz Road from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. SubZero has notified its employees of this upcoming parking change.
Hammersley Road and Reetz Road have also been identified as “race tracks” in Orchard Ridge. This summer petitions were signed by residents along both roads in order to get them into the mix for traffic calming. During this two to three year effort, we hope that the city takes steps such as clearly identifying the bike path on Hammersley Road in order to make the road safer. ORCC will continue working on both projects.
Ron, Dot, and former board member, Scott Peters, will conduct the annual Halloween judging on October 30. They will judge the outside Halloween decorations in the neighborhood and award a $15 prize to the best decorations for an ORCC member and offer a ORCC membership to the best house that is a nonmember, if they so choose.
Thursday, December 18 has been the date set for the Santa Claus visit. Holly already has a number of presents in her basement. We will place the sign-up for the Santa Claus visit in the next two Grapevines.
Denny said that ORCC has an opportunity to obtain a $1 for $1 match grant from the City to be used in planning activities in Orchard Ridge. Denny suggested that we use this money, if granted, to hold meetings with residents of Orchard Ridge to determine the future of the Orchard Ridge Board. Denny had a draft letter prepared for people to review because the deadline for the application of this grant was the next day, September 22. The ORCC Board approved the letter and ORCC will hope to get a matching grant of $1000 from the City.
A discussion on the updated bylaws was delayed until next meeting.
Ralph asked that all Board members present fill out a form showing their interests which will be part of the next Grapevine. Dot was supplied a copy to give to Eileen Regan. Maggie was supplied a copy to get to Dan Gregory. A copy of this form is shown below.
