Moments in ORCC History

1959

  • 256 members (in 2001 we have 325 members)
  • $300 in treasury (in 2001 we have about $4,500)
  • Boy Scouts ask for $50 for a new tent, first aid kit and other equipment
  • ORCC members want to slow Beltline traffic to 45 mph
  • Christmas Light Contest winners-The Durkopps

   1960

  • Membership dues remain $2 a year

  • ORCC buys a new flag for Boy Scouts

  • ORCC thinks about sponsoring a bridge marathon

1961

  • Ed Usher, ORCC member, attends a City Council meeting on delinquency prevention

  • Members think about placing tennis courts near the Ridgewood Pool.

  • Paul Fluck, who started the ORCC in 1952, passes away.  $20 memorium sent to United Church of Christ

1962

  • ORCC wants a flashing "slow down" sign on Gilbert Road by Orchard Ridge Elementary School.  The club writes to the school board for support

  • A new shopping center is proposed for land at Raymond Road and Whitney Way

1963

  • Consideration being given to have some acreage of the Mike Annen farm turned into a park for the eastern side of Orchard Ridge.  The February dinner dance this year will cost 5 dollars and the club expects an attendance of 100 couples.

1964

  • In June. a petition is circulated to get two or more tennis courts built in Orchard Ridge Park... but not be restricted to the park alone.

1965

  • ORCC Board discusses possible warming shelter at ice rink at Loruth Lagoon.  ORCC will talk to Madison Parks Department to see if this is feasible.

1966

  • In January, ORCC will have car bumper stickers ready for distribution at 25 cents each. The Club invests 25 dollars to help with new plantings in the Boulevard on Barton Road between 5700 and 5800 blocks.. as long as the homeowners there contribute to help planting as well. this year, Santa Visits had 671 children signed up for St. Nick.

1967

  • Two new Santa suits are bought this year for the Club. The Treasurers report show the Club has $82.74 on hand. Plans are trying to be worked up to build a new Welcome to Orchard Ridge sign and place it at Gilbert and Whitney Way. A boraded hockey rink was set-up on the lagoon area behind Loruth Terrace.

1968

  • Cub Pack 328 and 228 get $15 dollars each from ORCC to buy State flags. Acitvve members this year total 451. Perhaps next fall will be better. Meadowood and Greentree community clubs agree to sponsor $600 worth of 4th of July fireworks at Huegel watertower. ORCC declines to sponsor the event due to lack of funds in treasury.
